Teaching Yoga for Youth

Teaching Yoga for Youth: The Fundamentals course is designed for yoga teachers and yoga teachers in training who have a genuine interest in teaching yoga and mindfulness to youth in schools and community organizations, with a focus on those that mostly work with underserved youth. This course is also intended for school teachers, counselors, social workers, and others who work with youth and want to share the tools of yoga. Yoga experience and experience working with youth is preferred. This course will prepare teachers to adapt yoga techniques for elementary through high school aged youth and lead classes that are trauma-sensitive, age-appropriate, and engaging.

Course participants will:
  • discuss issues that often affect youth in underserved environments and specific benefits of yoga and mindfulness techniques.
  • design effective and engaging yoga classes and series for youth at various ages and developmental levels.
  • practice teaching yoga techniques adapted for school-age youth.
  • learn useful practices for partnering with schools and youth service organizations.
